About Yeena Yoo

Yeena Yoo is running to be your next DuPage County Treasurer, bringing proven leadership and a strong track record of public service.

Elected to the DuPage County Board in 2022, Yeena has been a strong proponent of transparency, innovation, and fiscal responsibility. As a member of the Board, she has conducted thorough, line-by-line reviews of departmental budgets and expenditures by other county elected officials. She has rigorously examined fiscal plans and consistently asked the critical questions to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently, responsibly, and in alignment with community priorities.

During her tenure as Chair of the Technology Committee, Yeena partnered with the county’s CIO and IT Department to support and enhance cybersecurity at the local level. Her leadership expanded access to technology resources for municipalities, promoting smarter, more cost-effective governance. Now, as Chair of the Economic Development Committee, Yeena is promoting countywide growth—supporting small businesses, attracting new investment, and advocating workforce development to ensure DuPage remains a great place to live, work, and thrive.

Yeena has spent her career fighting for those who need it most. As a legal aid attorney, she advocated for seniors, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence—working in and out of the courtroom to help people stay in their homes, access critical public benefits, and secure the legal protections they deserved. Her dedication to justice and service continues to guide her work in public office.

Appointed by the Mayor of Elmhurst, Yeena has served on the Elmhurst Senior Citizens Commission for the past four years, where she has been a dedicated advocate for older adults in the community. As a member of the Commission’s Education Committee, she has worked to increase awareness of the wide range of resources available to seniors, with the goal of enhancing their quality of life. Yeena also plays an active role in preserving local history as a member of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation. In this capacity, she supports the Elmhurst History Museum by helping drive membership, approving budgets, and contributing to long-term strategic planning.

As a founding member of the Elmhurst chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which she and a small group of like-minded women established in 2018, During her tenure, she held leadership positions including Group Chair and organized volunteers, monthly meetings, and events to advance grassroots advocacy focused on gun safety. Her efforts centered on raising awareness about firearm restraining orders (FROs), the intersection of gun violence and domestic abuse, and the heightened risk of child-related unintentional shootings and suicide associated with firearm access.

Now serving on the DuPage County Board, Yeena continues to prioritize public safety by championing secure firearm storage policies. She has worked in collaboration with the Regional Office of Education, the State’s Attorney’s Office, and law enforcement agencies across DuPage County to develop and distribute secure storage communications to school districts county-wide.

Yeena holds a law degree and a master’s in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, reflecting her strong foundation in both justice and community care. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wellesley College. Yeena lives in Elmhurst with her husband and their two sons, proudly raising her family in the community she serves.
