Public Safety

I’m running to fight for life-saving public health policies to reduce gun violence and increase public safety

Since 2016, I have been an advocate for gun safety because I believe in fighting for a safer world for my children and everyone in DuPage County. With a group of Elmhurst moms, I helped establish the Elmhurst chapter for Moms Demand Action and became its Data Lead. After two years, I became the Chair/Lead for Elmhurst and continued to lead efforts to raise awareness and educate the community on gun safety and gun violence prevention.

DuPage County is a safe county, with relatively low incidents of crime. But no community is immune to gun violence. There have been over 300 mass shootings nation-wide in 2022 alone; the most recent and proximate tragedy having occurred in Highland Park, Illinois. Gun violence affects people in every community, across socioeconomic and political lines, in every state in our nation. We see it not only in the form of mass shootings, but also domestic violence, suicide, and child-related deaths in school or at home. I am done with elected officials who offer only thoughts and prayers, or believe it’s not a local issue to be addressed, and continue to hide behind inaction. It is time that we prevent gun violence at ALL levels of government.

At the county level, I will work with our county departments to make our families and neighborhoods safer by advocating for common-sense, public health policies. As a member of the County Board, I will prioritize gun safety in the allocation of county monies to fund evidence-based strategies, such as programs that promote safe storage of firearms, and increase awareness and usage of the Illinois Firearm Restraining Order (FRO). We can work to support state and federal policies in various and specific ways as a combined effort to keep guns away from people — adults and children alike — who should not have them. Elected to the County Board, I will continue to fight for life-saving solutions because we CAN create safer communities for our children.
