Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

back

I’m running to advance diversity initiatives to ensure DuPage County generates opportunities and equity for all its residents

The DuPage County we live in today reflects the changing demographics of our nation. People from all walks of life participate in the day-to-day activities of our County, and it’s important that everyone who lives and works in DuPage are represented, valued, and heard.

The County Board recently created a Strategic Plan that has strategic imperatives that include Diversity and Inclusion. It recognizes the role that the County has in expanding initiatives and opportunities for our diverse population, to promote inclusivity among County employees, businesses and residents. But we are not there yet. It will take time and feedback to implement equitable policies that support our diverse workers, individuals, and families. We have not yet developed diverse local leaders; we have not yet executed employment and procurement opportunities; and we have not yet increased educational and workforce training for our diverse population.

As a member of the County Board, and as a person of color, I will bring my perspective, life experience, and training to promote DEI at the county level. I believe that promoting DEI fosters not only community, but also economic opportunities, innovation, and safety for every resident. I want to see a DuPage that is more equitable, inclusive, and celebrates the diversity of all its residents.
